T'is The Season To Be Merry

Hello friends! It's that time of the year again and Christmas is once again upon us! While it does not carry any significant meaning to my family or myself, I just think giving out gifts, cards and spreading well wishes is a nice thing to do. Also, who am I to pass up another reason for a party?

Back with just a quick post about Christmas nails, while I'm in the flurry of getting various cards and addresses sorted. I got this set done at The Nail Artelier! It's been about a week and I still can't believe how cute the reindeer is. So much love!

I'll leave you with Lea Michele's stunning rendition of O Holy Night - I know it's rather old, but her voice is just phenomenal and such welcome relief from the tinny remixes that are blasted by most shopping malls.

The Golden Rule

Finally back in Singapore!

For the moment, Luke, my white person college buddy from Australia is here to visit for a couple of days, and Heather, Claire and I have been taking him sightseeing. I can say that I have never done as much sightseeing in Singapore in my whole life as I have just done in the past three days. Also, I have never appreciated the invention of air conditioners more than I have as of now.

The most painful (but fun) places we've been to so far are the botanical gardens and the zoo. Every time I spot another one of those special air-conditioned viewing centers, I feel like the heavens has just bestowed a gift on me. I then proceed to slow-motion run in relief towards the center, tears of bliss pouring down my face. Of course this takes place in my head. In real life I just let out a grunt of approval and trudge over at a slightly faster pace.

My white person  friend Luke was kind enough to snap some quick outfit photos for me, so here they are! So deeply in love with my new Bimba and Lola bag that is perfect for spicing up any dull outfit. I already know this will become one of my holiday fashion staples. Also loving the Criminal Damage cropped shirt that is such a clever play on words.

Will update again really soon with a Christmas themed nail post! Look forward to it!

Freshly Minted

I actually had a different outfit in mind, because it has been warming up, and just yesterday Melbourne presented us with the most glorious sunny day. I was going wear the cutest paisley romper for this post in celebration of that. And what happened when I woke up this morning?

It was cold. And windy. Did I mention cold? The weather was just like: Nope. Nope. Nope. Here's a big bucket of nope.

On the other hand, it might be a while before I get to layer up on snuggly knits, so I pulled out all the pieces that have been staples in my wardrobe during the chilly bits this spring. I put on my favourite mint sweater over a fun polka dotted skater skirt and a collared blouse and paired it with my ever trusty creeper wedges.

Aaaaaand also, exams are out, and I'm scheduled to be on a plane home in four days! You have no idea how ready I am to revel in the freedom of the coming holidays, because I am so over studying and writing essays. It does promise to be a pretty happening few months ahead, with some friends from Melbourne coming down to visit and possibly an overseas trip in the early stages of planning.

So hyped, see you all real soon! :'D

P.S: I also realise I hardly smile for any of my pictures, so there's an awkward smile for you. ehehehehe.

Nocturnal

Children of a distant epoch,
constellations caught in our eyes,
dancing in the dark,
infinite
           pitter    patter
of midnight rain.

We inhaled stars by the lungful,
craving the almost imperceptible
white noise;
breath of
universes collecting thoughts,
deep in dormant slumber.

We were alive,
moonlight painting
breath
            skin
                     minds.

We watched the spectacle
of night -
while its audience slept -
holding glass dreams
apart
           a      part
in our hands.

I bet you all didn't know I was a closet writer!

My psychology exam is in two days and here I am, dawdling away my last precious midnight hours. Just thought I might share with everyone the occasional poem my crazy, overloaded brain decides to spew out in the middle of the night. It's one of the less offensive ones of the lot, or at least it is to me. I felt that it was a pity if it was just going to be left collecting dust in the recesses of my book, so here it is.

You're from the 70s, but I'm a 90's bitch

I am born in the year of 94', but since I didn't get the chance to live the fashion of that era - or the lack of, for that matter (think fanny packs, slap bracelets, puka shell necklaces and hair scrunchies) - here's an outfit put together by the three things that can't get anymore 90s: denim, tartan and creepers. Kept a modern touch to the ensemble with the touch of pleather in the shirt and leopard prints on my creepers.

I spent the better part of the rest of the 90s gnawing on teething toys, watching the original series of Thomas The Tank Engine and reading Winnie the Pooh. Oh yeah, I was a HUGE fan. I had a complete set of diecast metal trains, as well as the full series of Winnie the Pooh books and cassette tapes. Apparently I can now sell the trains on eBay as vintage items.

Is it just me, or do I suddenly feel extremely old? My toys are now considered vintage.

Photodiary

I'm sorry for the shabbiness of this post, but I have finally worked my way through the torrent of work spew that's being hurled my way, and I'm going to take a break now.

So here are some visuals I put together over the past few months. The first few are from back when I was in Singapore and Malaysia. My favourite from this whole photoset is probably #3, of the old shophouse on 120 Armenian St. It belongs to a grandaunt of mine.

Fun fact: Sun Yat Sen held a badass revolutionary fundraising meeting here.

Political fun facts aside, I really love the vintage peranakan vibe the house has to it. It's also got a courtyard that lets in sunlight as well as bedrooms upstairs with beautiful colonial style louvre windows. It's even got that smell of old parquet in some of the upstairs rooms. Go look it up on google, actually, it's pretty fascinating! (the house, I mean. Not how it smells.)

The nature spam to the end of the post is from a day trip to Dandenong with some friends from Trinity. I must admit, that though I absolutely love living in cities with lots of hustle and bustle, a quiet getaway with fresh air like this one was calming and a welcome change of scenery.

Here's wishing your Monday blues away and a good week ahead! It promises to be so for me, brunch planned on Thursday and Friday, hopefully my ASOS package arrives this week and a new post will be under way!

P.S. : Bought my first Essie nail polish - I have a feeling this is the start of an obsession that will not end well...
